MaineCare is Maine's Medicaid program. If you qualify it is free or close to it, so it is the first thing we check, all year round.
These figures change every year and depend on how MaineCare counts your household, so treat them as a guide and let us check your exact case.
Starting January 1, 2027, MaineCare expansion adults (19 to 64, covered because of income, not disabled, not on Medicare) must show work or community engagement: for example earning at least $580 in a month, or 80 hours a month of work, school, a work program or volunteering, or being in school at least half time. Current members are checked at their renewal, starting with March 2027 renewals.
Many people are, including those who are pregnant or up to 12 months after giving birth, parents or caretakers of a child 13 or younger, people caring for an adult with disabilities, people receiving SNAP or TANF, people with a health condition that limits work, people in substance use treatment, former foster youth under 26, and American Indian and Alaska Native members. Tell MaineCare if you are exempt.
You may qualify for CoverME.gov savings instead, including cost-sharing reductions that lower deductibles on Silver plans for incomes up to 250% of the poverty level. We compare both in the same appointment.
About 138% of the federal poverty level, roughly $1,836 a month in 2026 for a household of one. Your exact limit depends on how MaineCare counts your household.
From January 1, 2027 they apply to expansion adults aged 19 to 64, with many exemptions, such as pregnancy, caring for a young child, receiving SNAP or a health condition that limits work.
